Interior Design Project Chorleywood Hertfordshire

This is one of our most favourite living room schemes!

The brief from this client was simply that she wanted the scheme to be individual, cosy and packed full of colour. Initially she was dubious about employing an interior designer. Having not used an interior designer before, she had preconceptions that she would end up with an overly designed, generic scheme. So not true!

Why we love it!

This was such an amazing space to work with, team super tall ceilings and elegant arched windows and before you even begin, you already have a stunning canvas to work on. The key to a room as large as this, is to opt for deep colours on the walls, this instantly produces a dramatic look and creates a warm welcoming vibe. For this interior we chose a dark grey wall painted in Farrow and Ball paint.

To accent against the dark grey walls, we designed the overall scheme with bright block colours and bold geometric fabrics, upholstering sofas in gorgeous teal velvet and chairs in a plethora of wow designs, mixing linens with embroideries and highlighting with Ikat scatter cushions from A Rum Fellow.

The client was keen to keep a natural theme running through the living room, so even though the overall effect of the scheme has a glamorous appearance, the detail was in using natural products. The elegant full length curtains were made from a relaxed wool curtain fabric, the rug was an understated herringbone wool design by Alternative Flooring and who better to use than Andrew Martin for the furniture. Using their petrified wood side table and Aubrey cabinet fitted the brief perfectly.

Team all of the above with ambient lighting by Heathfield Lighting and bespoke drinks cabinets with art deco inspired gold handles and you have one hell of a gorgeous scheme.

Oh and not to forget the ceiling! Initially the client was thinking of removing this as she couldn't see past the state it was in originally, think pink, green and gold, an interesting choice of colour to be sure! Thankfully we were employed before this was removed by the builders. Knowing that client's were paying a fortune to have ceilings like this installed we were adamant this had to stay. Once re painted the moulded ceiling completed this dramatic scheme and we also helped save our client money in the process. Not bad for a days work!
