Spring Trends - Materials
From future-focused sustainable fabrics to using traditional and classic materials in a brand new way. This season there is a big focus on materials; what are products made from, how they are made, and how can these materials be used for maximum impact in your home, and minimum impact environmentally. These trends are all tied together with a soft, harmonious colour palette, letting the materials and their properties shine through.
Eco-Conscious Fabrics
We’ve been so excited to see the new fabric ranges from Kirky Designs. These collections are all designed with sustainability in mind.
Wave is crafted from polyester yarns, produced from waste plastic bottles. This fabric features a subtle women moire effect and soft finish, that belies its plastic origins. This textural plain fabric is accentuated by a beautiful contemporary tonal palette.
Fleck Eco is a gorgeous textured chenille. Fleck Eco combines recycled wool and acrylic yarns with Tencel Lyocell and 100% PET recycled polyester yarns. The recycled wool and acrylic yarns are reconstituted from the fashion industry, whilst Tencel Lyocell is a sustainable yarn that originates from fast-growing eucalyptus trees. The polyester yarns are produced from waste plastic bottles.
Flow is a fabulously interesting pixelated multi-coloured design, again made from polyester produced from waste plastic bottles.
Leaf II is made from 100% recycled wool felt, and uses reconstituted wool yarns from the fashion industry. The recycled wool yarns are first sorted and then blended to form a unique colour palette, synonymous with Kirkby Design’s contemporary style. A soft finish gives a tactile touch to this robust and versatile textile with an intriguing mottled appearance.
A range of fabrics in beautiful colours and textures, all created from sustainable and waste materials.
A percentage of the proceeds from each collection are also donated to either the Marine Conservation Society or Trees For Life.
And finally, the fabrics are also fully recyclable, so they can be repurposed for future use.
We love to see this kind of innovation in interiors, the possibilities for creating beautiful products responsibly. Head to the Kirkby Designs website to read more about these amazing new fabrics.
The New Rattan
What a comeback for this 70’s patio furniture classic! This natural material has been reinvigorated by one of our favourite designers Andrew Martin. Used in pieces with metals and glass to create stunning contemporary furniture. The contrast of golds and bronzes against the rattan is simply beautiful.
Unusual Woods
Letting the grains shine through, and become part of bold, graphic modern designs. We are big fans of the way designers are using wood in ever more interesting ways.
Aubrey Take a look at this cabinet, the two-toned wood finish is inspired by the Cubism art movement of the 20th century. The wood’s tones, knots, and grains are framed in ebony for that bold, cool contrast. Swipe to see the whole piece.
William This seamless console was crafted with an ash veneer and aged brass finish giving it a cool, contemporary Scandinavian feel.
Kinvara Geometric. We always adore the combination of natural materials with metals, this sideboard makes an impact. Black aged oak in herringbone parquet, surrounded by a subtle metal frame. A really smart piece.
New Neutrals
Zinc Textiles are all about the luxe monochrome vibes and the new collections City and Beach take this to the next level.
Shearling is super soft velvet, a totally indulgent upholstery choice. For a soft graphic effect Macrame’s funky maze-like design ticks all the boxes. And we just adore Barriere - a velvet inspired by snow-capped mountains.
For a dreamy, elegant, soft colour palette, in the most inviting and interesting textures delve into the new Zinc City and Beach collections. Just perfection!
