A view of cultivated fields from above, the complex interconnection of Inca masonry, the many visual comparisons for this printed linen all seem to refer to the interplay between organic and fabricated. A hand printed block design has been translated into this masterful screen print and married with a smooth pure linen ground.

A sturdy linen weave forms the ground for meandering cotton chain-stitch designs in modernist patterns, and chunky bars of satin-stitch embroidery, to give a decidedly fresh modern look to the ancient craft of stitchery. Printed fabrics, in linear designs, are rendered in a painterly manner, some like gentle watercolours, some in pointillist dots. Light filters through a curtain of very fine linen, pieced together in a geometric patchwork, and reflecting its abstract patterns on floor and walls. The Mark Alexander design studio has created patterns in the most subtle of colours and textures to enhance any interior – traditional or modern, in town or country.
